Jordan
High School recently received a donation of 38 white azalea plants from NC Beautiful. The azaleas were planted by members of the FFA, Environmental club and the PTSA after school on October 15th.
John Archibald, a parent and member of the school PTSA, applied for the azaleas through a grant with N.C. Beautiful, a program that has provided environmental education and beautification opportunities that elevate the quality of life of
North Carolinians for over 40 years. We hope that the azaleas will be enjoyed by the
Jordan community. |

Davanzo a Hit at National Conference |

Jordan teacher Philip Davanzo presented at the Association for Career and Technical Education 2009 National Best Practices Conference in Austin, TX, last month. One of only 20 presenters chosen from across the country, Davanzo “had the only workshop that had to turn people away to his session,” said Max Thomas, Jr., an attendee of the conference. “The primary message is that my classroom is so far in left field with the direction I run it. I use technology everyday, I empower my students, put them in place to succeed, and much more,” explained Davanzo about his presentation. When asked how he became involved with the conference, he said, “When establishing a network, it’s important for people to know you! It’s not who you know!! I have met and spoken with Jerry Jones (owner of the Dallas Cowboys), but he doesn’t know me!” Thomas further complimented Davanzo, saying, “He has remarkable energy and represented [Durham Public Schools] quite well. We are currently losing some battles in educating our youth of today. I believe Mr. Davanzo is on the right track in reaching students we are not reaching.”

Spirit Week 2009 is off to a great start with everyone showing their team spirit on Monday by wearing t-shirts of their favorite sports team. Today we all showed how wacky and tacky we can be. For more wacky pictures, click here. Tomorrow, get a buddy and dress up for Twin Day and on Thursday, put on your best cowboy hat and boots for Western Day. Friday students will show off their class colors: White/Freshmen, Blue/Sophomores, Red/Juniors and Black/Seniors. Remember, if you want to wear a hat any day this week, be sure to purchase a hat pass for $1 in the lobby before and after school through Thursday.
The Homecoming Pep Rally will be Thursday, at 5:30 on the football field. Student Council will look for the most spirited outfits throughout the week and crown Mr. & Mrs. JHS School Spirit during the Pep Rally. Jordan hosts the Northern Knights for the homecoming game at 7:00 on Friday. Then on Saturday plan to attend the Homecoming Dance from 7pm-10pm. Admission is $5 with snacks and drinks being provided. Please bring proof that you are a Jordan student because this dance is for students only. Have a great Spirit Week 2009 and Go Falcons!
