Students in Poverty in America, a new course at Jordan High School this year, will take the lead on Project 10,000, a project to benefit the "Students Against Hunger" campaign through the North Carolina Food Bank in Durham. "The goal of the project is easy," says course teacher, Brian McDonald, "collect 8,000 food items and commit 2,000 hours of community service to benefit our local community." According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, over 35 million people live in "food insecure" households, meaning their access to enough food is limited by a lack of money and other resources. The entire Jordan community can help by joining efforts on Project 10,000. Look for more details on the project in the weeks to come. For more information on the food bank, go to the official Food Bank of North Carolina website. Pictured left is Mr. McDonald with the third period Poverty in America class.
