Students Reach Out to Tsunami Victims Through Crane Project
Jordan students
and faculty have come together to create a project in support
of the tsunami victims in Japan. Students, some pictured here
with their English teacher, Danielle Riley, have composed poems
and together with faculty have created over 1,000 origami cranes to
send to the Children's Peace Monument in Hiroshima. The cranes,
inspired by the Sadako
Sasaki story, are
based on an ancient Japanese folktale that claims that folding one
thousand cranes can bring good luck and good health. Students and
faculty created beautiful cranes with brightly colored paper and
hope-filled haiku poems, including:
You are not alone
Our cranes send to you spring flowers
From our hearts to yours
A noble’s courage
A warrior’s valiant stand
An eye’s hope-filled tear
A revelation--
I’m in love with the very
Action of living
